Spring is coming
Yesterday was moving day: We took Frieda and Gretchen for a walk down the street to their new quarters in our garden. The barn is almost ready, merely the windows, doors and green roof are missing. The goats have now officially been confirmed for Tuesday, I can’t wait! Frieda should not be long anymore judging from her udder, but Gretchen still looks the same… I feel like having a giant surprise egg! Let’s wait and see.
It’s also amasing how different they are, Frieda is a good old sturdy sheep, doesn’t let Kasimir mess with her and fully concentrated on food. Gretchen is like a young blue-eyed girl, curious of everything (and trying out poisonous buxus and snowdrops) but also quickly scared; she is now fascinated by the dog. The two latter are testing the boundaries of their relation, often sniffing at each other, Kasimir licking Gretchen’s nose, eyes and ears. But if Kasimir starts playing tough (pawing her in the face), then the situation quickly tips into a chasing ‘game’ (?), with Gretchen trying to head-kick the dog, and Kasimir having a blast… I haven’t found a way to manage that unorthodox situation yet…
As for us, I think it’s clear that Hannes has been building the barn more than full-time, and it’s beautiful (full picture will follow). We are considering moving in there too during the summer months And I have been gearing-up for milking season, looking for a part-time job, organising the advertisement and booking of our holiday apartments for the summer and attending and learning for my training as ‘landscape and nature guide’. The next big item on the to-do list, is finding a good pasture (about 1ha would do). We’ve found one for now, in a landscape protection area, but it’s quite far off (5km).
More news soon, if we don’t drown in goat milk first!
